Under the action of the vertical load and lateral impact of the vehicle, the facing will produce a tendency to shift relative to the base. If the internal frictional resistance and cohesive force of the surface layer itself and the bending stress at the bottom of the surface layer do not resist such a moving stress, the surface layer will have such problems as pushing, grooving or even loosening and peeling, so there must be an additional force to prevent this layer of movement. When the lower seal layer is added, the frictional resistance and adhesion that prevent movement are increased between the layers. The layers can bear the bonding and transition tasks between rigid and soft, so that the surface layer can resist the load together with the base layer, the cushion layer and the soil foundation, thereby achieving the purpose of improving the overall strength of the road surface.
Waterproof and impervious
In the multi-layer structure of the highway asphalt pavement, at least one layer must be a type I dense grade asphalt concrete mix. Its purpose is to enhance the surface layer compactness and prevent the erosion and damage of surface water to the road surface and the road base layer. But that's not enough. Because in addition to design factors, the construction of asphalt concrete is also affected by various factors such as asphalt quality, stone properties, stone specifications and proportions, oil-stone ratio, mixing and paving equipment, and rolling temperature and rolling time. Therefore, the "Technical Specifications for Highway Asphalt Pavement" clearly stipulates that when it is located in a rainy area with large gaps in the asphalt surface layer and serious water seepage, the lower sealing layer should be laid under the asphalt surface layer.
